World Bank

Get to know your president

Maria Antonia Rojas

Honorable delegates,

My name is Maria Antonia Rojas and I’m a sophomore at Colegio Bolivar. I have participated in multiple commissions, including World Health Organization, Disarmament and International Security Committee, and World Bank; I was also president of the United Nations Environmental Programme. This year I am pleased to be president of the World Bank, one of my favorite commissions.

Most people believe MUNs are only for those who love politics, international relations, or have a lot of academic knowledge. Yet, I believe this is not true. MUNs are for everyone who believes in a better future; MUNs are for all those young leaders hoping to make a difference in the world.

I hope to serve as a guide and mentor through this interesting process, and always remember that I am willing to help you at any time. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know, so that I can try to solve the problem. During the model, I will be giving my best, and thus, expect the best from all of you. Just like I will be prepared and meet all my responsibilities, I exert all of you to do the same, in order to make the best out of this experience.

Sincerely,

Maria Antonia Rojas

Get to know your vicepresident

Isabela Dueñas

World Bank is an important commission for me because it has always been an opportunity to open endless doors of knowledge and different experiences for my academic and personal life. The fact that all of the armed-conflicts throughout history have been caused by either a political or economic issue, it makes me feel that everyone committed to the MUN experience should give viable solutions to have peace around the world. Also, this commission is very different than the others because every delegate has to face the reality and discover how difficult it is to manage an international community by managing economic indicators and stating economic policies.

Dear delegates,

An endearing welcome to all of you, the leaders of the future. First of all, we want to congratulate each and every one for taking up the challenge of being part of such a difficult commission as the World Bank. Our names are Maria Antonia Rojas and Isabela Dueñas, and together we will serve as your chair this year. The topics that will be discussed are international monetary and social issues happening in the 21st century. Because of this, we urge you to read the guide thoroughly; if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask us, because more than a machine that corrects parliamentary procedure, we are here to be your mentors and help all of you throughout the amazing MUN experience. We truly hope this commission and the topics chosen are as exciting for you as they are for us.

Best regards,

Your Chair
